Percy Jackson

Basic Information and Childhood
of Percy Jackson

Parents: Poseidon and Sally Jackson
Cabin: Cabin 3
Favourite colour: Blue
You might think the world is a perfectly normal place. But don't be fooled!
Sally Jackson and the Olympian god Poseidon met and fell in love. And what happened a little over nine months later? Their son – born of their union, though strictly forbidden – came into the world on 18 August. He was to be named Perseus Jackson, just like the demigod who enjoyed a happy fate. Rumour has it that naming a child after someone ensures they share that same fate. Sally Jackson probably had this in mind!

The courageous woman really does everything to protect her son and even enters into a relationship with the repulsive Gabe Ugliano, so that his stench masks Percy’s demigod scent. With this man in their lives, both of them had a really hard time. Percy felt uncomfortable at home, and things weren’t any better for him at school. He was labelled a problem child because of his dyslexia and ADHD and had to change schools frequently as a result.

However, his weaknesses are precisely what give him his identity as a demigod. His brain thinks in Ancient Greek (well, at least he reads in Ancient Greek) and his ADHD helps him in battle.

The abilities and challenges of Percy Jackson

Like all demigods, Percy possesses extraordinary abilities. However, as the son of the Big Three, he is a more powerful demigod.

He can control water, breathe underwater, and becomes stronger and faster when near or in water. It is essential that he masters his abilities; otherwise, all the monsters from Greek mythology that are out to get him would tear him to pieces. But strength alone is not enough: he must know how to use his abilities strategically, rather than simply acting on impulse. This was very clear, for example, during the battle against the Hydra. Instead of thinking things through and then acting, he simply chopped off the heads – and you already know what happened next!

Without his friends Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood, Percy would be lost in the world of Greek mythology. They were often only able to defeat their dangerous foes through clever thinking and teamwork.
However, one notices that Percy has developed very quickly, step by step. He is becoming braver, more responsible and is beginning to accept his place as a demigod and, above all, as the son of Poseidon.
