Loki
Loki
Loki is a trickster deity in Norse mythology, known for causing chaos. They were originally born to the giant race (Jotunn), but were later adopted into the main branch of the family known as Æsir. In my research into Loki, I learned a range of abilities worth noting. These abilities include shapeshifting, creating illusions, charm speaking, fire control, and magic. It makes sense for a deity like Loki to be able to have such a wide range of powers, things like shapeshifting and fire, since they are the deity of mischief and usually causes general chaos within the Nordic Myths.
Loki is often described as having blonde hair with streaks of red, brown, and yellow tints to it, which is often characterized as being feathery and tousled. This deity also wears a Red Sox jersey. It is Loki that we are talking about. They'd wear it just to mock mortals at how easy it is to blend into mortal culture. They also have a large burn scar splashing across their face, the result of punishment where a snake dripped venom onto them for thousands of years.
The deity Loki was born to two giants, Farbauti (father) and Laufey (mother). They have two brothers named Helblindi and Byleistr, though Helblindi is destined to end up killing Loki someday. I am not sure when, and the sources I looked at didn’t say much about this, but at some point, Odin became Loki’s blood brother. I am not sure how that worked, but maybe one day the two were like “Oh, hey, you look similar to me?”
Anyway, being Odin's brother is what got Loki accepted into Æsir. It’s said they were as much of a hindrance to the Asgardians as they were an ally. Their mischievous nature made their loyalties about as flexible as cooked spaghetti noodles, I suppose.
There were a few things Loki did. For one, they shaved off Sif’s prized hair, which ticked Thor off. Then there was the whole thing where they tricked Hor into killing Balder. Loki had given Hor a spear made of mistletoe, the only thing that could kill Balder, thanks to mommy dearest Frigg. In turn, Loki was tied to a rock. You know what they were tied to the rock with? Their sons' entrails. Worse yet, Loki had snake venom dripping onto them. It sounds horrible, smelly, and nauseating. Gross.
Anyway, their wife, bless her heart, couldn’t stand seeing Loki in pain, so she held a bowl up to catch as much of the venom as she could. Though when she had to empty it, Loki would get burned and cause earthquakes by writhing in pain. Ouch.

Emi's Explorations of Extended Erudition
- Loki is known to be a gender-fluid deity in Norse mythology. They dressed as a handmaiden to attend a wedding where Thor was the bride. Both gods pulled off those dresses well.
- One time in Norse Mythology, Loki was tasked with luring away a giant’s horse so the Asgard gods wouldn’t have to reward said giant with Freyja’s hand in marriage. Sleipnir is the eight-legged horse that Loki gave birth to.
- Loki also has a wolf son named Fenris, who is destined to eat Odin and start Ragnarok. Odin must have been a tasty snack.
