This is Magical Mythology
with Ebony Hance
Hello there and welcome to "Magical Mythology".
Your one stop blog with all the necessary facts, quizzes and lore you need, to scratch that Percy Jackson itch! If you love Percy Jackson and are passionate about Greek mythology, you've come to the right place! Let's face it, being a demigod is...well, complicated to say the least! There are so many new things to learn not only about yourself and these new abilities that you have acquired but also about your Godly parent and who they are and how they define you as a person as well as this new strange camp that I keep talking about which you will definitely be attending in the near future if you are already a resident. Hello fellow camper, we are beyond blessed to call Camp Half-Blood home. However, that does not make it any less daunting to live here or the journey to get you any less perilous. Being a demigod basically means that you have a complicated past. Sure all our stories are different but at the end of the day we all have a Godly parent up there who decided that they wanted to meddle in the mortal world again. I mean who do they think they are, right? Having kids and then disappearing on us, leaving us to basically fend for ourselves. Thank goodness that camp exists; it is the one place that we can find solace, protection, and friends who become family as we learn skills that will assist us on this journey. I have been using these letters as a sort of guide for the newly claimed and unclaimed demigods out there. I hope that they act as a map to camp and a manual for those of you learning our ways and how you belong in our world. When I first found out that I was a demigod (and the daughter of Zeus of all gods...), the one thing that I wished that I had had was a manual or handbook in order to teach me how to survive and find my footing in the strange new world that I found myself in. For starters it would have been extremely helpful had my father left a guide to Camp with my mother before he left. That would have made it a whole lot easier to find this place without needing a chaotic escort in a moment of panic, when my brother and I had to escape from MONSTERS. Actual physical monsters. Like come on dad, surely that's something important to mention to your kids. Nothing crazy. Just a "Hey, just a heads up... one day you are going to have all these crazy powers and be hunted down by monsters simply for just existing." I personally think it would have probably been very helpful information to my mother to have had before she agreed to have children with him too. I mean hey. They say going through puberty is complicated. Well let me tell you something... being a demigod and getting your abilities is even worse. Not only is it incredibly scary when you don’t understand what is going on, but when you are going through puberty and get a few pimples at least you know what to do to help get rid of them and figure it all out, right? When you find out you're a demigod, on the other hand, there are no advice columns or anyone with information to tell you how to deal with it. No "A Zeus kid's guide to zapping" or "Advice for a kid of Apollo" self-help books readily available for purchase. That is why I'm writing these letters as a guide for the young demigods out there, who are like I once was—clueless about who they are and how they can grow into the person that they are destined to be. Being a demigod is an incredibly daunting thing. I'm not going to pretend that it's all hearts and flowers. No. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and effort, and it is something that not everybody might choose for themselves if given the choice. It may seem that there are a lot of perks that come along with it, however there are a lot of downsides to it too. Not only do you have to live far away from everybody that you know and love, but you also struggle with finding yourself and finding out what your destiny is, while at the same time harboring feelings about a Godly parent who left you behind a long time ago. Trust me, I was mad at my dad too. We've all been there. I used to work through my feelings by journaling and I hope that my latest letter will help you work through some of yours too. When the first six Campers of Camp Half-Blood started training at Camp I'm almost certain that Chiron had them taking notes or keeping journals to help them work through and remember things too. I was pleasantly surprised the other day when I stumbled across my brother's old journal in the Zeus kid's cabin that documented his feelings during our journey to camp. I would like to share some of his entries with you in my next few letters, to show that you are not alone in your thoughts and feelings regarding this crazy new reality which is your life. Being a demigod is a big deal. It's perfectly okay to feel a little bit overwhelmed by it all. However, it's important to remember that you have the most incredible support system by your side to help you grow through it. You are destined for greatness. Never forget that. And so without further ado, here is an insight from a Zeus kid themself about their first week at Camp Half-Blood. The first entry is below. On that note, if you suspect that you are one of us, I highly encourage you to make your way to camp. We here at Camp Half-Blood will be waiting with open arms. Looking forward to seeing you all at camp! Safe travels and may the gods guide your path. Until next time, Ebony Mae Hance. A daughter of Zeus. JOURNAL ENTRY ------- Entry I — Dear Diary, Today my sister and I were chased by monsters. The kind that I didn't even know existed. The kind of monsters that my mother told me didn't even live in my closet or under my bed. They lived in the shadows stalking us, until their voices became louder and louder and we became aware of their existence. They forced my sister and I out of the only home that we've ever known. We are in the woods now being escorted by some strange creature called a fawn, to a place that we don't even know. I have no idea where we are or where we are going. For the first time in our lives Eb and I are very much alone. We were forced to leave our mother behind and I don't think we'll ever see her again. Dad warned mom that this would happen, but not soon enough. He only thought it important to mention it to her after we were born. He told her that we would be demigods and that he was some King of the Gods so he claims. Honestly, I don't even believe that he is who she says he is. All I know right now is that I'm scared. Xaden. ---
