This is Magical Mythology
with Ebony Hance
Hello there and welcome to "Magical Mythology".
Your one stop blog with all the necessary facts, quizzes and lore you need, to scratch that Percy Jackson itch! If you love Percy Jackson and are passionate about Greek mythology, you've come to the right place!
Last letter I shared the questions that campers had for some of the godly folk and people that they cross paths with daily. Infact, there were so many that I couldn't fit them all in one letter, so to start off today's letter, here are a few more questions that campers would like to know the answers to:
Here is a reminder of last week's question:
"If you could ask any demigod or godly folk or anything in mythology a question, who would you ask and what would it be?" ...
Here is what everyone had to say:
"Tough one. I'd want to ask... Zeus how he feels about electronics. He does have domain over lightning and stuff so do electrical appliances count or is that more Hephaestus's thing?" - Maxim Valetto.
"Hmm, I'd ask someone important if could possibly gain immortality as a minor god. That'd be so much fun!" - Invern Solstorn.
"I would ask either Autolycus, Hermes or Odysseus how they became so good at what thev did. Hermes knew what he'd do the moment he was born- whos in charge of that? Is a good born with their domain pre- selected?" - Cade Heron.
Now moving on to this week's topic! Now that you know the questions and opinions of some of the Half-Bloods that attend camp, it is only fitting that we address the elephant in the room...or...er monsters in the woods if you will! Let's talk about MONSTERS!
Now look, the whole being a demigod thing is cool, but the one thing that REALLY upsets me about it all, is the fact that i didn't ask to become monster bait. Literally. Let's face it. A lot of us has the same not so pleasant introduction to the fact that monsters actually exist. In fact, you probably discovered it the same way that i did.
Let me take you back...you probably just found out that you're a demigod and just as you were trying to wrap your head around it, suddenly you realized that you were being stalked by some kind of monster, who wanted to eat you simply for just existing.
Now I don't know about you, but i personally think it would give a monster pretty bad indigestion if they tried to eat me, nor do I want to be eaten. That being said however, you try and explain to a monster that you come in peace... Luckily, once you get to camp half blood, you will receive training to help you fight them off, however it is unfortunately highly likely that you will still have to face them at some point. My first monster encounter was with a Basilisk and trust me, that was NOT fun.
That being said, I asked some campers if they had ever been on a monster quest and what their least favorite monster to come across is and here is what they had to say:
"I actually have never been on a monster quest which is probably for the best. My least favorite monster to come across is probably Blemmyae. They irk me and are not as dangerous as some others, but thev can get nasty when thev want to. I also seem to encounter them a lot, and they were one of the first monsters I ever had the unfortunate pleasure of fighting" - Tau Sangsorn (Son of Zeus)
"I had to fight a Empousa once. worst thing ever. Unfortunately though. I've never been on a quest, Hebe kids aren't really built for that." - Yumiko Takaki (daughter of Hebe)
"My most memorable monster quest was the one where Grover ended up in a wedding dress. I love that one! My least favorite monster to come across is a mad goat." - William Rosvienne - (Son of Demeter)
"Monster quests? Yeah I tend to steer clear of those! The last time I came across a Hydra and attempted to reason with it, it tried to eat me with all nine of it's heads, so yeah. Definitely my least favorite monster. Count me out." - Xaden Hance (son of Zeus.)
I WAS hoping to gather a few more options, but there weren't very many campers who were eager to discuss monsters with me...and fair enough.
Discussing nightmare inducing critters is not the most exciting way to spend your day! For those of you who do find it interesting and want to have a go at answering my questions yourself,
What is your most memorable monster quest?
And
What is your least favorite monster to come across?
Please do feel free to write back to me and let me know! I'd love to hear all your stories from you about your monster encounters and mythological adventures!
(Let me know your answers in the comments below!)
On that note, if you suspect that you are one of us, I highly encourage you to make your way to camp. We here at Camp Half-Blood will be waiting with open arms.
Looking forward to seeing you all at camp! Safe travels and may the gods guide your path.
Until next time,
Ebony Mae Hance.
A daughter of Zeus.
